When a transaction arrives, our servers read the merchant name, amount and date and match it against a set of categorization rules. It is deterministic, not a machine-learning model, so the same merchant always lands in the same place. Corrections you make apply to your own account and are never pooled with anyone else's data.

Your data is encrypted in transit with TLS and at rest with AES-256, and stored in Canada. Staff access to production is limited and audit-logged, and we never receive your banking password. To categorize your spending our servers do read transaction details — we are specific about that on our Security page rather than claiming otherwise. We never sell your data, never pool it with other customers, and never use it to train AI.
